About
Indigenous Culture, Global Mobility, and Internationalization in Higher Education
The 1st IOC 2021 is the first international conference organized by Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and Universitas Padjajaran (UNPAD) with the theme “Indigenous Culture, Global Mobility, and Internationalization in Higher Education”.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the human’s life today. It has been more than a year the pandemic hit all aspects of life including the higher education sector. The pandemic situation has forced all of the management in higher education institutions to redesign the operational activities such as lecturing, administrative activities, and all the business process switched to online.
This impact has also challenged the international office management responsible for initiating and implementing international cooperation. The international cooperation implementation needs to be adjusted and redesigned to maintain the cooperation with international partners because the international “physical” mobility has been stopped.
To keep strengthening the cooperation between national higher education institutions in Indonesia and partner universities in overseas, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and Universitas Padjajaran (UNPAD) in cooperation with Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Indonesia and Forum KUI Indonesia hold The 1st International Office Conference (IOC) 2021. The agenda includes pre-conference workshops and International Conference (parallel, seminar, and networking sessions).
Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Rector Universitas Islam Indonesia
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh,
The new interconnected but diverse world demands citizens with a new set of capabilities, not only on the individual level but also on the organizational and even societal level. The Covid-19 pandemic is now also in play. It affects almost all aspects of our lives and brings the world to a higher level of uncertainty.
In the context of higher education, universities should proactively cope with any changes. They should adapt their business practices and educational contents that are future proof to produce capable global individual citizens. Meanwhile, at the organizational level, they need to develop capabilities to take advantage of the current development in a mutualistic institutional collaboration.
Strengthening the university international office, hence, is no longer an option. It is indeed a prerequisite to extending the global network. This International Office Conference 2021, the first conference of its kind, may play an essential role as a forum to share perspectives, showcase practical lessons learned, and exchange opportunities.
Let me conclude with an African proverb that may frame this initiative: "If you want to go fast, go alone. But, if you want to go far, go together." This is our moment and let's seize it together.
Wassalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh.
Assalammualaikum Wr. Wb.
Om Swastiastu Namo Budaya Salam Kebajikan
Nice Greetings from Universitas Padjadjaran
The world still faces unprecedented global health and socio-economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Indonesia. The situation is shifting the people lifestyle and their way of communicating with one another. The international cooperation implementation needs to be adjusted and redesigned to maintain the cooperation with international partners since the global “physical” mobility has been temporarily stopped.
Although the situation is uneasy, international relations and collaborations should keep standing and developing. In that case, together, we can learn to handle this critical situation through this international office conference that will expose the strategy and management on internationalization during and after pandemic covid 19.
A strategic collaboration between Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) and Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) to hold an International Office Conference (IOC) 2021 will be one of the breakthroughs for reinitiating network with all partners abroad and resetting our joint strategy to encounter the pandemic challenges.
Furthermore, this International Office Conference (IOC) 2021 could also be a melting pot for all Indonesian international offices to connect and bridge the cooperation as mutual partners. IOC will provide knowledge, experience, and new perspectives on internationalization during and after Pandemic Covid 19. Finally, I hope every participant will have fruitful talks and meetings and bring home a high spirit of internationalization.
Stay safe, Keep healthy, always happy
